«L'Oursiade» is the novel by Antonine Maillet, published by LGF/Le Livre de Poche in paperback, in French.
In Acadia, a centenarian, her adopted son, and a mixed-race man live on the margins, keepers of the words and memory of their land. After a fire, a tribe of bears seeks refuge near humans, and both worlds, besieged and similar, must learn to coexist in an epic and tender fable about discovering the other.
The author, Antonine Maillet, won the 1979 Goncourt Prize for «Pélagie-la-Charrette»; the back cover includes a comment by Alain Bosquet in Le Figaro littéraire.
Antonine Maillet was an Acadian novelist, playwright and scholar.
