«Luces del Norte» is the fantasy novel by Philip Pullman, published by Círculo de Lectores in hardcover (379 pages, in Spanish).
First installment of «La materia oscura», the story follows Lyra Belacqua, a girl living in a world where each person's soul manifests as a companion animal, the daimonion. When her friend Roger disappears, Lyra travels to the Arctic with her alethiometer, a compass of truths, to discover what Dust is and why some children are being kidnapped.
The novel opens the trilogy «La materia oscura», continued with «La daga» and «El catalejo lacado». Originally published as «Northern Lights» in 1995, it inspired the movie «La brújula dorada» (2007).
Ideal for young readers and adults seeking fantasy with a female protagonist, alternative worlds and armoured polar bears.
