«Luxe-verdriet» is the short story collection by Peter van Straaten, published by Singel Pockets in paperback (213 pages, in Dutch).
The work brings together vignettes and short stories that portray the small everyday miseries of the inhabitants of the Netherlands: annoyances, gestures and contradictions of people living in the welfare state. Van Straaten turns the seemingly trivial into literature, with an observant eye close to the Dutch character.
The work carries the subtitle 'verhalen', which in Dutch means 'stories', and falls within literary fiction.
For readers of short fiction with an interest in everyday life and Dutch society.
Peter van Straaten was a Dutch cartoonist and comics artist. He is best known for his political cartoons as well as his satirical observations of everyday people. He also had a newspaper comic strip Vader & Zoon, which ran in Het Parool for almost two decades.
