«Madame Della Seta aussi est juive» is the novel by Rosetta Loy, published by Rivages in paperback (180 pages, in French).
Rome, 1930s. A girl from a bourgeois family grows up among walks in the Villa Borghese, cakes from the cook and the courtesy of neighbors. In 1938, when she starts school, the antisemitic laws shatter that placid life: Giorgio Levi cannot use the elevator, Dr Luzzatti stops practicing and Mrs Della Seta shuts herself in her apartment.
Translation from the Italian by Françoise Brun. This French edition appeared in 1998; the original work, in 1991.
For readers of Italian fiction and stories about everyday life under fascism.
