Synopsis of Madeleine Férat

Madeleine Férat es una de las primeras novelas de Émile Zola, publicada originalmente en 1868. La historia sigue a Madeleine, una joven que intenta escapar de un pasado turbulento y un tutor abusivo, refugiándose en los brazos de un hombre llamado Jacques. Sin embargo, su vida se complica cuando, tras creer que Jacques ha muerto en un naufragio, intenta reconstruir su felicidad casándose con Guillaume de Viargue, solo para que el pasado regrese de forma inesperada. Esta obra de juventud, dedicada al pintor Manet, ya muestra el interés de Zola por el naturalismo, los personajes marcados por el destino y las situaciones de angustia psicológica. Con un estilo que evoca la atmósfera de las pinturas de Renoir y Degas, la tragedia se cierne sobre personajes jóvenes y luminosos en un entorno rural normando.
