«Maiderren taupada bilduma» is the children's and young adult story by Maite González Esnal, published by Alberdania in paperback (112 pages, in Basque).
Maider is a girl who does what others her age do: she goes to school, makes friends and dreams about the future. However, she was born unexpectedly, far from home and inside a suitcase, and spent her early years travelling the world with her parents, always close to their heartbeats and breaths. That experience has made her a special girl: a close voice narrates how Maider gathers an extensive collection of heartbeats from people and animals, from the slow ones of Ander and those of the brother her mother is expecting to the fast ones of a rabbit or those lost among the fat of a pig. Behind every heartbeat there is an experience.
The book belongs to the Ostiral saila collection and is number 19 in the series; it is the first edition, published on 16 May 2002.
Recommended for readers aged 8 to 14, both for those approaching literature in Basque and for those seeking a sensitive story about childhood and family relationships.
