«Mancarsi» is the novel by Diego De Silva, published by Einaudi in 2014 in paperback (88 pages, in Italian).
Nicola and Irene go to the same bistro every day without ever crossing paths. Both carry the weight of a failed marriage: she left her husband when she stopped loving him; he was widowed after years of distance. As their lives seem to run in parallel, the novel explores nostalgia, desire and the hope of a new beginning.
Italian edition in Einaudi's Super ET collection. The starting point, according to the publisher, is the «perfect love story» between two people who see each other regularly at a bistro without ever getting to know each other.
For readers of contemporary fiction looking for a short, intimate story about love and loneliness.
