«Manos desnudas» is the young adult novel by Bart Moeyaert, published by Editorial Luis Vives (Edelvives) in paperback (104 pages, in Spanish).
On the last day of the year, Ward races across the meadows with his friend Bernie and his dog Elmer, pursued by Beyeman, a cold and vengeful neighbor. The boy has accidentally killed Beyeman's duck; dazed, he must come to terms with what happened and understand the source of his visceral hatred for that man.
Published in 2005, it belongs to the Alandar collection (number 68). The translation from Dutch is by María Lerma Ayala (original «Blote handen»), winner of the Boekenleeuw prize in 1996.
Aimed at young and young adult readers, it combines rural setting with themes such as death and violence; recommended for grades 7 to 9.
Bart Peter Boudewijn Moeyaert is a Belgian writer.
