«Manual para mujeres de la limpieza» is the collection of short stories by Lucia Berlin, published by Alfaguara in paperback (432 pages, in Spanish).
The book brings together stories that portray strong, intelligent and disoriented women, forced to survive between humor and melancholy. Berlin turns everyday episodes into narrative material: love, alcohol, work and family appear with a raw gaze very close to her own life.
The original English edition was titled A Manual for Cleaning Women. This edition includes a translation by Eugenia Vázquez Nacarino, a foreword by Lydia Davis and an introduction by Stephen Emerson.
A work for readers of short stories and contemporary fiction interested in female voices with humor and a raw gaze.
Lucia Brown Berlin was an American short story writer. She had a small, devoted following, but did not reach a mass audience during her lifetime. She rose to sudden literary fame in 2015, eleven years after her death, with the publication of a volume of her selected stories, A Manual for Cleaning Women.
