«Martín Fierro» is the Argentine epic poem by José Hernández, published by Rueda J. M. in hardcover (316 pages, in Spanish).
The poem follows a gaucho who, forced to serve in the militias, falls into desertion and illegality. His misfortunes serve to portray the marginalization of the gaucho in 19th-century Argentina, with a lyrical, satirical, and epic tone that combines passions, sufferings, and hopes.
The work consists of two parts, El gaucho Martín Fierro and La vuelta de Martín Fierro, originally published in 1872 and 1879. This edition belongs to the Literatura Universal collection.
Aimed at students and readers interested in gaucho literature and the history of 19th-century Argentina.
José Hernández was an Argentine journalist, poet, and politician best known as the author of the epic poem Martín Fierro. In his tribute, his birthday is celebrated in Argentina as a national holiday, called Tradition Day.
