«Matar o tempo» is the picaresque novel by Xesús Manuel Valcárcel, published by Edicións Xerais in paperback (157 pages, in Galician).
An education in dishonor and vileness: a humble character builds his life at the expense of others and endures hunger, deceit, mockery and exploitation. There is no pity or compassion, only cruelty, but the rich, musical prose contrasts with the rawness. The work is a parody of today's society and leaves a door open to hope.
1995 edition, in the Narrativa collection from Edicións Xerais de Galicia (Vigo). ISBN 84-7507-874-5.
Aimed at readers of literary fiction and contemporary narrative with an interest in Galician literature.
