«Meine geniale Freundin» is the novel by Elena Ferrante published by Suhrkamp in paperback, first volume of the Neapolitan saga (488 pages, in German).
In a working-class neighborhood of Naples in the 1950s, Lila and Elena are two very different but inseparable girls: Lila is impulsive and brilliant; Elena, shy and diligent. Their friendship accompanies them for decades, until one disappears without a trace and the other reconstructs their shared story to understand that enigma.
This novel is the first installment of the «Neapolitanische Saga»; it was originally published as «L'amica geniale» and translated into German by Karin Krieger.
For readers of contemporary literary fiction, Italian fiction and family sagas, as well as for those who want to start the Neapolitan tetralogy.
