«Mémed et les 40 menteurs» is the children's story by Françoise Guillaumond, illustrated by Elène Usdin, published by Magnard in paperback (47 pages).

A tale set in the city of Kirovabad, where a gang of thieves known as the forty liars grows rich by telling deceits instead of robbing violently; the more outlandish their lies, the greater their loot.

Part of the 'Que d'histoires ! CE1 - Série 1 (2002) - Période 3' series by Magnard, aimed at the CE1 primary school year in France. It is inspired by a traditional Azerbaijani tale.
