«Mi hermano el alcalde» is the novel by Fernando Vallejo, published by Alfaguara in paperback (176 pages, in Spanish).
The narrator tells the story of his brother, mayor of Támesis, a Colombian town determined to be happy and failed. With a mocking and disillusioned tone, the novel shows a common dream crumbling amid promises, deceptions, betrayals, and corpses. A satire of democracy in which the dead vote and some parrots utter absolute judgments.
