«Mi petición de más espacio» is John Hersey's dystopian novel, published by Noguer Ediciones in hardcover (172 pages, in Spanish).
In an overpopulated dystopia, Poynter waits in a long line to submit his petition. Asking for more space is so unheard of that the news travels down the line and nearly provokes violence. A young woman requesting a job change stands beside him; they talk and perhaps fall in love. The novel portrays a world where dissent is an inconceivable crime.
The original novel, My Petition for More Space, appeared in 1974; this Spanish edition, translated by Andrés Bosch, dates from 1975.
For readers of dystopian fiction and science fiction interested in works exploring overpopulation and social control.
John Richard Hersey was an American writer and journalist. He is considered one of the earliest practitioners of the so-called New Journalism, in which storytelling techniques of fiction are adapted to non-fiction reportage. In 1999, Hiroshima, Hersey's account of the aftermath of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, Japan, was adjudged the finest work of American journalism of the 20th century by a 36-member panel associated with New York University's journalism department.
