«Miramar» is the novel by Nobel laureate Naguib Mahfouz, with an introduction by John Fowles, published by Icaria in paperback (242 pages, in Spanish).
Set in the Miramar pension in Alexandria, the novel follows a group of disillusioned men living together in post-revolution Egypt. The arrival of a young peasant woman seeking a different life disrupts their coexistence; the same events are told from different voices, offering a polyphonic view of Egyptian society.
Written in 1967, it belongs to Icaria's Literaria collection (no. 35). Translated from English by Magdalena Martínez Torres, revised from the Arabic edition by M. Alomar Saffour.
For readers of contemporary Arabic fiction and classic twentieth-century novels, with an interest in choral stories about Egyptian society.

Naguib Mahfouz Abdelaziz Ibrahim Ahmed Al-Basha was an Egyptian writer who won the 1988 Nobel Prize in Literature. In awarding the prize, the Swedish Academy described him as a writer "who, through works rich in nuance – now clear-sightedly realistic, now evocatively ambiguous – has formed an Egyptian narrative art that applies to all mankind".
