«Morte sul castello di poppa» is the classic mystery novel by Mary Roberts Rinehart, published by Newton Compton Editori in paperback (96 pages).
Ralph Leslie, a young convalescent doctor, agrees to work as a waiter on the yacht «Ella» to earn a living. Among the wealthy passengers on the after deck, the beautiful and haughty Elsa Lee is the only one who unsettles him. One stifling August night, the voyage turns into a nightmare: several passengers are murdered and everyone on board is a suspect.
The novel was originally published in 1914 as The After House. This 1993 edition belongs to the Il Giallo Economico Classico collection.

Mary Roberts Rinehart was an American writer, often called the American Agatha Christie. Rinehart published her first mystery novel, The Circular Staircase, in 1908, which introduced the "had I but known" narrative style. Rinehart is also considered the earliest known source of the phrase "the butler did it", in her novel The Door (1930), although the exact phrase does not appear in her work and the plot device had been used prior to that time. She also worked to tell the stories and experiences of front line soldiers during World War I, one of the first women to travel to the Belgian front lines.
