«My Name Escapes Me: The Diary of a Retiring Actor» is the diary of actor Alec Guinness, published by Hamish Hamilton in hardcover (224 pages, in English).
For about eighteen months, from January 1995, Alec Guinness records in this diary fragments of his daily life and his view of the world: the National Lottery, life in the Hampshire countryside, memories of Ralph Richardson and reflections on the Catholic Church, with the humor and insight that characterized him.
Originally published in 1996, the volume expands and revises the entries the actor published in The Spectator and includes a preface by John le Carré.
For admirers of Alec Guinness, as well as for those who appreciate memoirs by actors of British theater and film.

Sir Alec Guinness was an English actor. In the BFI listing of the 100 most important British films of the 20th century, he was the single most noted actor, represented across nine films—six in starring roles and three in supporting roles—including five directed by David Lean and four from Ealing Studios. He won an Academy Award, a BAFTA, a Golden Globe, a Tony Award and a Volpi Cup. In 1959, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for services to the arts. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960, the Academy Honorary Award for lifetime achievement in 1980 and the BAFTA Academy Fellowship Award in 1989.
