In the autumn of 1646, Atto Melani, a castrato and secret agent in the service of the Medici, is sent to Paris for a mysterious mission. During his journey, his ship is attacked by pirates, and he and other survivors take refuge in an abbey on the island of Gorgona. There, Atto discovers a manuscript that questions the history of humanity and connects it to the murder of Jacques Bouchard, who discovered an ancient codex in the Vatican. Atto must unravel the secrets behind these events, facing powerful forces who prefer to keep the truth hidden.
