«Nuevos comentarios del mayor Thompson» is a social satire by Pierre Daninos, published by Planeta in hardcover (257 pages, in Spanish).
Major Thompson, an Englishman living in France, ironically reviews the contradictions of French society: the France that laments, the one that takes pride, the symbolic figures of France-woman and France-widow, patriotism and everyday life. He also does not forget to compare his British compatriots, between tradition and change.
First edition of 1975 at Planeta, in the «Infinito Ensayo» collection, translated by Elena del Amo. Original work: «Les derniers carnets du major Thompson» (1973).
For readers who enjoy satire of manners and humor about national stereotypes, particularly between France and Great Britain.
Pierre Daninos was a French writer and humorist.
