«O amante» is the romantic and autobiographical novel by Marguerite Duras, published by Difel in paperback (146 pages, in Portuguese).
In French Indochina in the 1930s, a fifteen-year-old girl begins a clandestine relationship with a Chinese merchant. Marguerite Duras narrates that love with fragmented prose, between desire, racism, family decline and sexual awakening. The story, autobiographical in basis, shows how that experience marks an entire life.
The Portuguese edition is dated 1984.
For readers of French fiction and romantic stories with a strong historical context.
