«O catecismo do labrego» is a satirical prose work by Valentín Lamas Carvajal and Arturo Vázquez Núñez, published by La Voz de Galicia in paperback (111 pages).
The work takes the form of a parodic catechism: a peasant answers the questions put to him and, in his answers, denounces the miserable living conditions of rural Galicia and the oppression suffered by peasants due to the abuse of mayors, secretaries and local bosses. Unlike other voices of the time, such as Curros Enríquez, the satire is not directed against the Church.
Originally published in 1889 under the pseudonym Frei Marcos da Portela; it began to be published in 1888 in the magazine O Tio Marcos d'a Portela. This edition is from 2001.
