«O Evangelho segundo Lázaro» is the historical fiction novel by Richard Zimler, published by Porto Editora in paperback (452 pages, in Portuguese).
The work starts from an episode of the New Testament: the resurrection of Lazarus, friend of Jesus. Zimler imagines the story from Lazarus's perspective, from his childhood alongside Jesus to the awakening in the tomb and his life three decades after the crucifixion. A posthumous gift from Jesus, hidden in a cursed place in Jerusalem, could hold the key to the plans for a Promised Land.
Novel originally written in English by Richard Zimler and translated into Portuguese. It is set in the context of Jewish practices of the pre-Christian era. Considered a work of historical fiction with a religious background.
Richard Zimler is a best-selling author. His books, which have earned him a 1994 National Endowment of the Arts Fellowship in Fiction and the 1998 Herodotus Award, have been published in many countries and translated into more than 20 languages.
