«O Universo & Outras Ficções» is a fiction book by Carlos Alberto Machado, published by Companhia das Ilhas in paperback (160 pp., in Portuguese).
In a Dublin bar, two penniless young men share wine when a stranger introduces himself as Pierre Menard, a Borges character, and hands one of them a manuscript: the supposed last texts of the Argentine. The narrator swears he transcribed them faithfully in a literary game about metafiction and Borgesian legacy.
It is Carlos Alberto Machado's sixth fiction book, after titles such as «Estórias Açorianas» (2012) and «O Mar de Ludovico» (2017).
For readers interested in Jorge Luis Borges, metafiction and contemporary narrative in Portuguese.
