«Olympia a mitjanit» is the contemporary novel by Baltasar Porcel, published by Planeta CAT in paperback (408 pages, in Catalan).
The arrival of Olympia, an Icelander returning to Mallorca, disrupts the lives of several characters and weaves together stories reaching back to the civil war. The narrative combines social ascent, passions, family ties and the contradictions of a prosperity linked to tourism, in an ironic look at the island's decline.
The work belongs to the Ramon Llull collection and won the Salambó Prize (2004) and the Serra d'Or Critics' Prize for Novel (2005).
For readers of contemporary fiction interested in social portraits with irony and in Catalan narrative.
Baltasar Porcel i Pujol was a Spanish writer, journalist and literary critic. His enormous legacy credited him as one of the greatest authors in Catalan literature from the 20th century.
