«Ostland» is the historical novel and thriller by David Thomas, published by Quercus in hardcover in English.
In 1941 Berlin, detective Georg Heuser pursues a serial killer who murders women near the S-Bahn tracks. In 1959, lawyer Paula Siebert investigates Nazi crimes and tries to understand how Heuser, now detained, went from pursuing evil to becoming part of it on the Russian front, in the Nazi territory called Ostland.
The novel, originally published in 2013, is based on a real case and blends criminal investigation with the context of the Second World War.
For readers of historical thrillers and fiction about the Second World War and the Holocaust.
