«Otje» is the children's novel by Annie M.G. Schmidt, with drawings by Fiep Westendorp, published by Querido Kinderboek in hardcover (160 pages, in Dutch).
Otje's father is an excellent cook, but he loses his job. Without the necessary papers he cannot find new work, so Otje and her father set out on the search accompanied by some birds that join them on their adventure.
Winner of the Gouden Griffel award in 1981. Originally published in 1980; this edition is from 2006.
A classic of Dutch children's literature, intended for reading aloud to children from about 6 years old and for independent reading from 9.

Anna Maria Geertruida "Annie" Schmidt was a Dutch writer. She is called the mother of the Dutch theatrical song, and the queen of Dutch children's literature, praised for her "delicious Dutch idiom," and considered one of the greatest Dutch writers. An ultimate honour was extended to her posthumously, in 2007, when a group of Dutch historians compiled the "Canon of the Netherlands" and included Schmidt, alongside national icons such as Vincent van Gogh and Anne Frank.
