When she was little, biologist Ana Pêgo didn't play in the backyard, but almost always on the beach. As she grew up, she realized that a new invasive species was becoming increasingly common on the sand: plastic. To better alert people to its consequences for the planet, Ana decided to collect and name this species. She called it Plasticus maritimus, and since then she has never given it a break, starting an awareness project for a more sensible use of plastics. Inspired by this project, this book contains information about the relationship between plastic and the oceans. It also includes a guide to prepare for trips to the beach, with the goal of collecting and analyzing specimens of this species. The goal: to motivate change.
