«Plateau» is the crime novel by Franck Bouysse, published by LGF (Le Livre de Poche) in paperback (384 pages, in French).
On a farmstead on the Millevaches plateau, Judith and Virgile run a small farm with Georges, the nephew they raised. When a young woman moves into Georges's caravan, Karl, a tormented ex-boxer, arrives in the village and a faceless hunter prowls, appearances crumble and gunshots break the calm of the landscape.
It won the Prix des lecteurs de la Foire du Livre de Brive 2016 and the Prix Cercle Chapel 2016; the cover states «par l'auteur de Né d'aucune femme».
For those seeking a dark-toned French rural story with complex characters and intense prose.
