«Poisson-Chat. Une Vie Romanc'e» is the novel by Jerome Charyn, published by Contemporary French Fiction in paperback (368 pages, in French).
Poor childhood in the Jewish-Polish Bronx neighborhood, first amorous awakenings, a wandering life across the United States and various trades: a young man's path towards writing. With humor and baroque imagination, the novel mixes these episodes with the author's autobiography and blurs the line between experience and fiction.
Work originally published in 1980 as The Catfish Man: A Conjured Life; the translation of this French edition is by Daniel Mauroc.
