«Polyeucte» is the tragedy by Pierre Corneille, published by Dessain et Tolra in paperback, in the Univers des Lettres collection, in French.
Set in pagan Armenia, it recounts the conversion to Christianity of Polyeucte, a local nobleman, and the consequences his faith brings about in his wife Pauline and in the governor. Corneille combines political and religious tension, sacrifice and love, in a tragedy of 17th-century French classical theater.
Composed in 1641, this edition reproduces the complete text and includes a pedagogical dossier with materials on 17th-century French theater, within the Univers des Lettres collection.
For students of literature and theater and for readers interested in French classicism.
