«Por el cielo y más allá» is the historical and psychological novel by Carme Riera, published by Alfaguara in paperback (456 pages, in Spanish).
Set in mid-nineteenth-century Cuba, it follows two branches of the Forteza family, descendants of Majorcan conversos, who emigrated to Havana. Originally published in Catalan as «Cap al cel obert», translated by the author. With this novel Riera closes the cycle about the Majorcan conversos that began with «En el último azul».

Carme Riera Guilera is a novelist and essayist. She has also written short stories, scripts for radio and television and literary criticism. She holds a doctorate in Hispanic Philology and is a professor of Spanish literature at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
