Postwar: A History of Europe Since 1945 is a masterful work by Tony Judt that narrates the rich and complex history of Europe from 1945 to the present day. The book explores the continent's recovery after the devastation of war, the decline of Soviet communism, the rise of the Common Market and the European Union, and Europe's difficult relationship with its past and the powers that surround it. Judt analyzes the evolution of each part of the continent, contrasting the experiences of Western and Eastern Europe, and presents social and cultural stories that give meaning to Europe's identity and recent history.
