«Pourquoi le ciel est bleu» is the novel by Christian Signol, published by Le Livre de Poche in paperback (346 pages, in French).
The narrator, a writer, evokes his paternal grandfather, Julien, a humble man who never learned to read or write. As a child, Julien was slapped for asking why the sky is blue, a scene that marked his existence. The novel recounts his effort to escape an imposed destiny and give his children a better future.
Subtitled 'roman', the work was originally published in 2009; this edition is from 2011.
For readers of contemporary French fiction and stories of family memory.
