«Professor Boffin's Umbrella» is the graded reader by L. G. Alexander, published by Addison-Wesley Longman Ltd in paperback (32 pages, in English).
Professor Boffin tries an umbrella that lets him fly and, upon landing, a policeman questions him about what he is doing. Shortly after, a flying saucer appears and the professor finds himself inside with two green creatures with big eyes; as they do not understand his language, he tries to communicate with them by pointing at planet Earth on a sky map.
Published in 1986, it is part of the Longman Structural Readers series at Stage 2 level, with illustrations by Bailey Pettengell Design Ltd.
Intended for students of English as a foreign language, it serves as supplementary reading with controlled structures and vocabulary.
