The memoirs of Carmen Baroja y Nessi, sister of Ricardo and Pío Baroja, entitled by herself Recuerdos de una mujer de la generación del 98, are an unpublished and endearing document as well as historically important. Carmen Baroja, educated very much in the Spanish style, developed a tireless artistic and folklore research activity. She actively participated in the founding of a ladies' club, the Lyceum, presided over by María de Maeztu, which was attended by, among others, Zenobia Camprubí and Victoria Kent. She wrote articles and books, such as El encaje en España (Labor, 1933) and Joyas populares y amuletos (1949), which remained unpublished.
