«Relato de un náufrago» is the journalistic account by Gabriel García Márquez, published by Editorial Vicens Vives in paperback (176 pages, in Spanish).
In 1955, the Colombian destroyer Caldas threw eight crew members into the Caribbean Sea; only sailor Luis Alejandro Velasco survived ten days on a raft, without water or food. García Márquez composed this first-person account about hunger, solitude, sharks and hallucinations, with a journalistic style and notes of humor and irony.
Work originally published in 1970 and part of the Cucaña Collection (no. 61). This school edition includes color illustrations by Gianni De Conno, explanatory notes and activities by Jordi Ardanuy Baró.

Gabriel José García Márquez was a Colombian writer and journalist, known affectionately as Gabo or Gabito throughout Latin America. Considered one of the most significant authors of the 20th century, particularly in the Spanish language, he was awarded the 1972 Neustadt International Prize for Literature and the 1982 Nobel Prize in Literature. He pursued a self-directed education that resulted in leaving law school for a career in journalism. From early on he showed no inhibitions in his criticism of Colombian and foreign politics. In 1958, he married Mercedes Barcha Pardo; they had two sons, Rodrigo and Gonzalo.
