«Relato de um náufrago» is the journalistic chronicle by Gabriel García Márquez, published by ASA in paperback (123 pages, in Portuguese).
It reconstructs the story of a Colombian sailor who in 1955 fell into the sea from the destroyer Caldas and survived ten days on a raft, without food or water. Journalist García Márquez discovers there was no storm: the ship was carrying poorly stowed contraband. The report becomes a political denunciation; the castaway loses his glory and the author goes into exile.
For readers of Gabriel García Márquez and Latin American literature, as well as for those who enjoy journalistic chronicles and survival stories.

Gabriel José García Márquez was a Colombian writer and journalist, known affectionately as Gabo or Gabito throughout Latin America. Considered one of the most significant authors of the 20th century, particularly in the Spanish language, he was awarded the 1972 Neustadt International Prize for Literature and the 1982 Nobel Prize in Literature. He pursued a self-directed education that resulted in leaving law school for a career in journalism. From early on he showed no inhibitions in his criticism of Colombian and foreign politics. In 1958, he married Mercedes Barcha Pardo; they had two sons, Rodrigo and Gonzalo.
