In the turbulent Los Angeles of the late 60s, Easy Rawlins faces new challenges. Two of his friends have disappeared: Ratón Alexander, wanted for murder, and Navidad Black, whose daughter he left at Easy's house before disappearing. The military police are looking for Black, which leads Easy to investigate the connection between the disappearances, the murder, and a mysterious blonde woman. Easy becomes a key tool in understanding these events and other episodes of World War II.
