«Senilità» is the novel by Italian writer Italo Svevo, published by Orsa Maggiore in paperback (212 pages, in Italian).
Emilio Brentani, a man in his thirties settled into a grey life in Trieste, meets Angiolina, a vital and fickle young woman, and their relationship confronts him with his own inertia. The novel addresses self-deception, jealousy and paralysis of the will with introspective narration that portrays the nineteenth-century bourgeoisie and anticipates the modern novel.
The novel was originally published in 1898 and this Italian edition is from 1988, in the Classici collection.
For readers of classic European fiction and nineteenth-century psychological narrative.
