In the autumn of 1541, Henry VIII travels to York to receive homage, accompanied by his fifth wife, Catherine Howard. The murder of a master glassmaker, custodian of manuscripts questioning the legitimacy of the Tudors, unleashes intrigues in the court. Lawyer Matthew Shardlake investigates this enigma, which could have serious consequences for the country and his own life. A historical suspense novel set in Tudor England, where friends and enemies, reformers and supporters of Rome are mixed.
