«Sportgedichten: sneller, sterker, slimmer, schoner, sporter: een sportsonnettenkransenkrans» is the sonnet collection by Bas Jongenelen and Marino van Liempt, published by Brave New Books in paperback (178 pages, in Dutch).
The book brings together 196 sonnets dedicated to as many elite Dutch athletes, from the first Olympic Games to Formula 1. Names such as Fanny Blankers-Koen, Johan Cruijff and Leontien van Moorsel follow one another in a kind of collective poetic marathon celebrating the drama, technique and effort of sport.
The full subtitle of the collection is «sneller, sterker, slimmer, schoner, sporter: een sportsonnettenkransenkrans», and the work is self-published by the authors. Published on February 10, 2023.
