«Sur l'île des Zertes» is a children's picture book by Claude Ponti, published by L'École des loisirs in paperback (68 pages, in French).
On an island lost in the open sea lives a zany universe of nails, hammers, holes and boxes: the world of the Zertes. Jules, a young Zerte, shares adventures with his friend Diouc, deals with the Martabaff, who bashes everything he finds, and feels a curious devotion to a brick to which he gives flowers.
Work originally published in 1999; this 2005 edition includes color illustrations and a landscape format.
Recommended for early readers and for readers of fantastical children's literature, due to Claude Ponti's characteristic imagination.
