Synopsis of Terra baixa
Terra baixa es un drama en prosa de Àngel Guimerà que presenta la oposición entre el plano corrupto (la tierra baja) y la montaña incontaminada (la tierra alta). El protagonista, Manelic, es llamado para casarse con Marta, una joven que hasta entonces había sido obligada a mantener relaciones íntimas con su amo, Sebastià. Marta encuentra en el amor de Manelic la fuerza para ser libre y romper la dependencia que la sujetaba a Sebastià. Este enfrentamiento desencadena un drama que termina con la muerte de Sebastià a manos de Manelic. En el trasfondo de la obra se percibe el ambiente de la sociedad rural en la Cataluña de la época, donde los campesinos sufrían una dependencia de los amos de las tierras. Contra esta situación, Guimerà crea el mito de la Terra Alta, un mundo incontaminado, donde no existe el mal y de donde sale el héroe que se opone a la corrupción de la tierra baja y vence el mal.
