Incluye obras como 'In the Shadow of the Glen', donde un anciano pone a prueba la lealtad de su esposa simulando su muerte; 'Riders to the Sea', inspirada en la estancia de Synge en las Islas Aran, que narra la muerte de una forma de vida a través de la pérdida de los hijos de una madre; 'The Tinker's Wedding', sobre el deseo de una mujer de casarse con su marido tinker; 'The Well of Saints', centrada en un hombre ciego que tiene la ilusión de ser guapo; 'The Playboy of the Western World', que causó controversia por su representación de la mujer irlandesa; y 'Deirdre of the Sorrows', la última obra de Synge, que cuenta la historia de una joven destinada a casarse con un rey anciano.

Edmund John Millington Synge, popularly known as J. M. Synge, was an Irish playwright, poet, writer and collector of folklores. As a key figure of the Irish Literary Revival during the early 20th century, he is widely regarded by critics and scholars as the most prolific playwright in Irish literature of the Edwardian era, and by several of his peers, among them William Butler Yeats.
