A shipwrecked naturalist named Prendick arrives on a remote island and discovers that Dr. Moreau, an obsessed scientist, creates semi-human beings there to whom he imposes rules. Living with these creatures becomes increasingly dangerous, and the protagonist ends up trapped in a nightmare of science without control.
