«The Jane Austen Book Club» is the novel by Karen Joy Fowler, published by Plume in paperback (304 pages, in English).
In California's Central Valley, five women and one man form a club to read Jane Austen's novels. Over six months, their romantic lives are shaken: marriages in crisis, affairs, and relationships that change direction. Fowler composes a social comedy with echoes of Austen.
The novel was originally published in 2004; this 2007 Plume paperback edition features on its cover the image of the Sony Pictures Classics movie adaptation.
A title for book clubs and for Jane Austen admirers who want to trace echoes of her work in a contemporary comedy.
