«The Koran» is the sacred book of Islam in N.J. Dawood's translation, published by Penguin Classics in paperback (464 pages, in English).
The sacred text of Islam contains the infallible word of God revealed to Muhammad by the archangel Gabriel, considered by Muslims a guide for conduct in the Arab way of life. N.J. Dawood's translation, revised for this edition, seeks to convey in English the rhythm and tone of the original, and follows the traditional order of the surahs.
Fifth revised edition, published in 1990; N.J. Dawood's translation originally appeared in Penguin Classics in 1956. This edition includes a complete index.
Reference work for readers interested in religion, spirituality, and sacred texts.
