«The Lovers of Algeria» is a novel by Anouar Benmalek, published by Harvill Press in hardcover (320 pages, in English).
A Swiss woman named Anna walks through a cemetery in Algiers looking for the graves of her children, killed decades earlier by the FLN for considering their father, Nassreddine, a traitor. Back in an Algeria besieged by terrorism and fundamentalism, Anna disguises herself and embarks on a dangerous search to find out if the man she loved is still alive, guided by Jallal, a young peanut seller, in a story that crosses love with the country's recent tragedy.
