«The Man of Feeling» is Javier Marías's novel published by Penguin Classics in paperback (144 pages, in English).
A young tenor travels by train from Paris to Madrid and becomes fascinated by a businessman, his attractive wife, and their companion. His life of rehearsals, travel, and luxury hotels intertwines with theirs, and Natalia's beauty envelops him. Written in retrospect, the novel explores desire, memory, and whether we can recall what no longer exists.
The novel was originally published in 1986 as «El hombre sentimental»; this English edition is translated by Margaret Jull Costa and is part of the Penguin Modern Classics collection.
